Simplifying my life has been one of the most complicated things I've ever attempted.
Some people are using less than 10% of their brain because they are using less than 10% of their heart.
You can become the fastest reader or the most creative genius, build teams of extremely bright people for conducting synergistic dialogue, become a fast learner, establish highly organized information management systems, develop high levels of personal energy, and take on projects that give you an opportunity to employ huge levels of untapped brainpower; but if you consistently violate the rules of personal ecology, you risk wiping out all the gains you have achieved in these other areas.
Each life is maintained by a complex series of relationships. When something happens in one area that throws the overall system out of balance, a series of forces are mobilized to correct the situation. I use the term personal ecology to describe the ongoing process of keeping your life in balance. When engaging in an activity that threatens this balance, I say that it is not "personally ecological." Personal ecology is governed mostly by subconscious mental processes designed to help keep you alive. If you do something that is not personally ecological, these subconscious mental processes usually figure out some way to distract you from doing that activity.
